Emulating an iPad in Firefox

If you want to identify your browser as an iPad when navigating the web, open up your Firefox client and visit about:config in the navigation bar.  Right-click and create a new String entry, then enter the following information:

Preference name: general.useragent.override

Value: Mozilla/5.0 (iPad; U; CPU OS 3_2 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/531.21.10 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.4 Mobile/7B334b Safari/531.21.10

Is there a specific reason you would want to do this? Testing purposes perhaps? I can’t figure out a benefit :P

Yep, I don’t actually own an iPad, but we react differently with Flash content for users who use one. If we’ve got a Flash video, for example, we can serve up a direct link to an iPad-formatted video instead of attempting to drop the flv on the page.
